Yessiree, this Gif definitely represents how the feels washed over us during the whole movie. Here is my personal take on the movie though. I won't say it again but...
Okay, here goes nothing.
Thor The Dark World. What can I say? When I found out Alan Taylor was taking over Kenneth Branagh's place as Director I'll admit I was a little worried. The fact that the first film was executed perfectly, there would most certainly be high hopes for the sequel. All I knew about Alan Taylor is he directed a couple of episodes of Game of Thrones. I didn't lose faith in him whatever the circumstances, by all the good reviews for the acclaimed series I still had hope. SO I held my hopes high. And lowered them, upon entering the cinema to avoid any disappointment.
Well I guess this calls for an entire synopsis.
The beginning is almost the same as the first film: Odin narrates about a terrible race of elves (Hence, Malekith) who wants to destroy the entire universe with a weapon called the Aether. But after a lengthy battle, the Asgardians won with the leadership of Odin's father (I can't remember his name, Bodor? Bolgor?) And they think the elves and the Aether was destroyed. But it obviously isn't, as already pointed out in the trailer. Malekith and his trusty sidekicks kept themselves locked away, waiting for the Aether to reveal itself. Main titles roll in, and then BAM! In comes Loki, all in chains to face his adoptive parents. Frigga still loves him, despite what he's done. So do all his fangirls, by the way. Odin, however, doesn't share our empathy. He's all on the defense when Loki says its his birthright to be king, Odin replies by saying it was his birthright to die. Ouch. But it is true. He was abandoned as an infant, Odin saved his life. The only reason Loki is alive is because of Frigga.
YOU GO MAMA FRIGGA! Okay moving on.
Thor is battling across the Nine Realms with The Lady Sif and Warriors Three. It's got a nice ring to it doesn't it? So far they're doing alright, and errybody is happy. Well, Thor is kinda bummed cos he can't spend time with Jane on earth. We also see Sif getting friendzoned by Thor. Hard luck, Sif. Back on earth, things are ballistic. Eric Selvig has gone completely bonkers, Darcy's gotten herself an intern and Jane tried to forget Thor by putting herself out there. Obviously it didn't work out, yay for Thor! Jane then discovers this place where strange things happen, like gravitational imbalances and convergence. Watch the movie and you'll understand.
Jane is transported to an unknown location, which is definitely not anywhere on earth. She sees some reddish black thing trapped between a pillar and stretches her hand to touch it. It is absorbed into her body. And what else could it be but the Aether? Yes, the Aether has a host, which is happens to be Thor's love interest. What could be worse? Malekith wakes up from his deep slumber. That's an "Oh Shit." moment right there.
Heimdall can't see Jane when she is in that unknown place, so Thor goes to earth to find Jane. She arrives back on earth the way she came, and meets Thor! Aand he gets slapped twice by Jane. But he's all understanding, I guess. Thor brings her to Asgard, to find out what's wrong with her. Odin realizes its the Aether, and tells them what Malekith planned to do with it. He still thinks the elves were wiped out though. Those elves are planning to attack Asgard, because they know the Aether is there. Oh, and Loki is in trapped in the dungeons below when the evil elf arrives and releases all the bad guys. E-except for Loki. Meanwhile, Frigga protects Jane from Malekith. And boy, can she pack a punch. She fights so much for Jane, to protect her. But then comes that part I hate. She is killed by Malekith!
But I gotta say, Odin's reaction was so..dull. He literally was emotionless the whole time. Thor and Loki's reactions was clear. But then again, maybe Odin is shattered inside. His heart broke at the death of his wife, overcome with grief, knowing he can never be the same without her. But he doesn't show it. No, he keeps it all inside him because his people look up to him as their leader. He can't afford to let them down by crying over his deceased wife. He has to remain strong for them. And that's truly saddening.
We still love you, Mama Frigga.
After a grand and depressing funeral for the queen, Thor has a plan to remove the Aether from Jane. With the help of Heimdall, The Warriors Three and Lady Sif (Her being rather reluctant) they help Thor. He takes Loki along with him, because only he knows the secret passageway out from Asgard. After a hilarious wild goose chase, which involved the special appearance of "Captain America" and a spectacular commentary by Loki on Thor's flying skills, they reach Malekith's planet. I'll admit I was pretty shocked when Loki suddenly "turned the tables" on Thor, only to realize it was all a ruse to get the Aether out of Jane. And boy was I right. Thor's plan to DESTROY the Aether epicly failed however. Malekith absorbed the Aether and became powerful. So he leaves, while his elves take on Thor and Loki. But omg when Loki protected Jane TWICE from the elves..
He pushes her away and almost gets sucked by an crushing device, when Thor saves him. The next he shields her from an explosion. Haha, Shield. Moving on.
Thor's fighting Malekith's right hand man. He's winning, but that guy's too strong. Thor is about to be killed, when suddenly Loki stabs him with a spear. And THEN that beast pulls Loki in for a hug, only Loki's been stabbed by the spear protruding from the beast's chest. I bet you there will be a gifset featuring Thor screaming "NOOOO!" soon enough. Loki dies.
At this point I'm like
But I knew there was NO WAY they would let him die just like that. So I was patient. I continued to pay attention. So Thor and Jane find a way back to earth, by the convergence. What I understand from it is when all the worlds e.g Asgard, Jotunheim, Midgard are all lined up, which only happens every 5,000 years, a convergence happens, where portals to other worlds are opened up on Earth. Malekith planned to use Earth as a base to release the Kraken-I mean, Aether.
Oops, forgot to mention what happened to Darcy and Ian (the intern). They freed Eric from the old folk's home. I guess he was taken in after he went in public nude. All because his brain was scrambled by Loki. But he's okay now.
Malekith arrives in his gigantic ship and is about to end the universe. Thor battles him, distracting him while Jane and Eric figure out a way to align the convergence properly. Meanwhile, a guard stands before Odin and says they found a body. Odin looks at the guard and says "Loki." Why would he assume its Loki? My first thought. I was having my suspicions at this point. But then we switch back to Thor, who's still fighting Malekith. They battle by passing through the convergences and go through a few worlds. Hilarity ensues.
Finally, Thor managed to defeat him by slamming him with his overly charged hammer (It traveled through worlds to find him, getting energized in the process) Malekith is thrown back to his own planet. Oh, and his spaceship crushes him. The Aether? We'll get to that part later.
Bear with me a little more. Thor returns to face Odin, to pay for treason. Miraculously, Odin forgives him, and says he deserves to be King for his bravery. Although Thor is honoured, he does not want to accept the throne he thinks himself not suitable to rule, as he could never understand the responsibilities a for a leader of Asgard. He then says that Loki, he would've been able to take charge of Asgard should he still be alive. Odin then says he respects his decision, and that he's always loved Thor in his heart, even though he's never said it. Thor leaves, most probably to meet Jane. I remember during this part I was thinking: "Please Odin don't turn to Loki, please Odin don't turn to Loki.." I mean, it was fairly obvious that the guard from earlier was actually Loki in disguise. I figured he either killed or trapped Odin somewhere and posed as Odin.
And boy was I right.
I mean I don't know how to feel about this. On one hand I'm all
Cause Loki's alive! But on the other hand I'm like
Did he KILL Odin? What did he do to him? I HAVE TO KNOW.
If he did Thor would KILL him. Literally KILL him. I just hope Odin's locked up away somewhere so he can be rescued later. Well its obvious there's gonna be another sequel.
DAT ENDING THO.. I still can't believe it. But I don't think Loki is evil. He's more like a mischievous guy now. I mean think about it. His mother died, he got along with his brother, he even risked his life protecting them! I think that personal vendetta against Thor is lessened. But I'm gonna be stating the obvious here; he's going to play another big part in the sequel. Maybe alongside another villain. Thanos? The Enchantress? Who knows? As long as all the original actors/actresses agree to reprise their roles in Thor 3, and directed by talented directors, you can be sure I'll be in line to watch it.
Also, for Tom Hiddleston. He's such a talented actor, and a nice guy. I'm glad he's gotten the fame he's deserved. I really hope to meet him someday, to tell him that.
Overall : Amazing movie. Definitely a must-watch for all Thor fans :)
